Financial Incentives
There are many financial incentive programs encouraging you to green up your act. Northwestern Energy will pay you to insulation or add solar panels to your roof. There are 5% low interest loans available if you want to make your house more energy efficient. You can tax break if you buy a new water heater.

  • E + Green — NorthWestern Energy's E + Green program give customers an easy and affordable way to purchase renewable electric generation (Wind & Solar) for only 2 cents extra per KwH.
  • Green Power — NorthWestern Energy's offers programs that underwrite the cost of photo-voltaic solar panels, net metering allowing customers to sell electricity back to the grid, and rebates for adding insulation and programmable thermostats.
  • www.bozeman.net — Contact the Historic Preservation Department for further information. While the City of Bozeman is typically supportive of both green building practices and historic renovations, at present, there are no financial or tax incentives for building or renovating with energy efficent, sustainable materials or systems. However since the city adopted the Bozeman Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement we hope this will soon change.
  • www.NorthwesternEnergy.com — Northwestern Energy's Insulation incentives — Improving the insulation levels in your home is a proven way for many customers to reduce heating costs. This investment has been a common recommendation with a speedy payback in energy savings to thousands of customers who have had a free home energy audit through NorthWestern Energy. Customers who make an insulation improvement (see table below), may be eligible for a rebate under the E+ Natural Gas Savings Rebate Program.
  • www.EnergyStar.gov — Energy Star partners offer special incentives to encourage the construction, marketing, and purchase of ENERGY STAR qualified new homes. These incentives may include: cash rebates to homebuyers or homebuilders, preferred financing for homebuyers, marketing assistance for builders, and technical assistance for builders. Contact partners directly for specific information on their incentives. The partner's main phone number is displayed where a service area-specific phone number is not available.
  • www.NCAT.org — The National Center for Appropriate Technologies (NCAT) list of programs and incentives.
  • www.MontanaGreenPower.com — List of energy conservation financing and incentive programs in Montana.
  • www.MontanaGreenPower.com — A comprehensive list of commercial and residential energy efficiency incentive programs in Montana.
  • www.DEQ.us — Incentives, tax and otherwise, that Montana law offers for renewable energy development. Some are for individuals; some are for businesses; many are for both. These incentives generally apply to most kinds of renewable energy.
  • www.DSIREusa.org — The Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) is an ongoing project of the North Carolina Solar Center and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
