Lighting
Residential lighting consumes an enormous amount of electricity and is responsible for millions of tons of CO2 emissions. Swap your old bulbs for compact florescent bulbs or LEDs!
Compact Florescent Lighting
The Compact Florescent Lighting (CFL)is the most energy efficient and affordable residential lighting option available today. CFBs come in a wide variety of sizes, wattages and color hues, and are readily available everywhere light bulbs are sold.
LED
Light Emitting Diodes (LED) are more expensive than traditional bulbs, but require much less energy. LEDs are better at placing light in a single direction than incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. Because of their directional output, they have unique design features that can be exploited by clever designs. LED strip lights can be installed under counters, in hallways, and in staircases; concentrated arrays can be used for room lighting. Waterproof, outdoor fixtures are also available. Some manufacturers consider applications such as gardens, walkways, and decorative fixtures outside garage doors to be the most cost-efficient. LED lights are more rugged and damage-resistant than compact fluorescents and incandescent bulbs. LED lights don't flicker.
Lighting Fixtures
The look of Energy Star lighting has evolved into decorative fixtures, sconces, outdoor lighting, and ceiling fans that reduce operating costs. By selecting Energy Star lighting, ceiling fans, and light bulbs, you will be working toward reducing your energy bills and significantly helping to protect our environment. And to make your lighting even more green, Eleek makes beautiful lighting fixtures made from recycled materials.
Solar Tubes
Solar tubes improve on the idea of using solar power for lighting, but unlike often outdated and ineffectual skylights, they have the ability to light interiors not directly connected to the outdoors. That means that your dark closets, dimly lit bathrooms, windowless room, or basement apartments are capable of receiving natural light. This is accomplished by sunlight being transported through a highly reflective tube into interiors with minimal energy loss. Not only is the device eco-friendly, the dome-shaped lens is able to take in light at any time of day.
Recycled Ligting Fixtures
Eco lighting can be stylish and fun. Take Jerry Kott's recycled wine glasses or Green Lighting Concepts retro-modern lighting fixtures using glass lenses recycled from discarded traffic lights. Across the United States, giant truckloads of red, yellow, and green lenses are tossed into land-fills as cities upgrade to more efficient lighting technology. They're're reclaiming these glass artifacts to create "Stoplights," a line of lighting fixtures.
