American Clay Plaster
Manufactured in and using materials from the United States, American Clay uses natural clays, recycled and reclaimed aggregates, and vibrant natural pigments in each of their three beautiful finishes.
Low VOC Paint
VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emissions are carbon-containing chemical compounds that readily evaporate into the atmosphere, damaging the ozone layer. Low VOC paints do not emit that strong paint odor associated with regular paints, and various brands of Eco paint offers the same coverage and can be mixed to any color.
Milk Paint
Prior to about the mid-1800s, paint was not something that was commercially available. As a result, most people mixed up their own out of whatever materials were commonly available wherever they lived. One of the most popular formulas, which is said to actually date back to ancient Egypt, was an extremely durable and long-lasting finish known as milk paint. Milk paint is actually a "recipe" of ingredients that varied between geographic areas, but is basically a combination of milk protein, lime and a variety of natural pigments such as iron oxide, lampblack, berries, dried plants and many others. Milk paint is an ideal product for use with antique or reproduction furniture and woodwork, or even for painting the entire house. The colors are deep and rich, long lasting and extremely fade-resistant and have a texture that cannot be duplicated with today's commercial paints.
Milk paints also have the added value of being environmentally safe and non-toxic when dry - great for kid's toys and furniture - and they contain no lead, chemical preservatives, fungicides, hydrocarbons or other petroleum derivatives. There is a slight milk odor when the paint is wet which disappears completely when dry and if someone in your family is allergic to modern commercial paints, you may find that milk paint is just the product you're looking for to paint your home's interior. On the other hand, if anyone you know has a severe allergic reaction to milk products, you may want to consult your physician before using milk paints.
